One of the secrets to long term business success is continually building both sales and profits. The same is true when you are opening a dollar store. Your dollar store sale levels and dollar store profits must continually increase for you to maximize your success. This all sounds just fine. It all sounds very easy to do. The fact is that achieving sales and profit growth takes planning and work. It takes seeing opportunities that others ignore, or simply overlook. It takes a focused effort that never stops. In this article we examine one of the often overlooked opportunities to grow traffic and sales. I present how to benefit from nearby attractions when opening a dollar store.

When first starting your dollar store change you point of view regarding opportunities to bring new shoppers into your store. Begin to target nearby attractions for larger groups of potential shoppers. This doesn’t mean you must be located near a theme park or other attraction as it is often used. This means you must simply begin to look for close by businesses and other operations where large groups assemble. Then take the right steps to build traffic and dollar store sale levels by targeting them. Here are some examples of ways to build your dollar store profits.

Example #1) If there is a bingo hall nearby, you will see large groups of bingo players coming and going as sessions start and end throughout the day and evening. There is an opportunity to gain large numbers of traffic before and after bingo sessions if you take the right steps. First, these bingo players will be looking for snacks and beverages before and after a session. They will also be looking for bingo markers and other items to keep their mind occupied (Think crossword puzzle books, and other small easily carried items.). These are the types of items that will bring in bingo players and then motivate them to make purchases. Work with the owner and manager of the bingo hall to do promotions for your store. Offer ‘getting to know you’ specials and general announcements about the items you carry. Then watch as your dollar store sale levels and your dollar store profits start to grow.

Example#2) Go to work and locate all of the close by daycare facilities after opening a dollar store. Your target here would be both the providers and the children’s parents. Start by stocking up on toys! Then add activities and games that are appropriate for the age groups being cared for. Don’t forget to add some of the basic baby and child care items to round out your selection.
