Performance Review
By Anthony Vignocchi
Life insurance products are financial products-like stocks, bonds or CD s, their performance may or may not be keeping pace with changing economic times.
For many products the bottom has dropped out–the customer just doesn t know it yet.
Every owner of life insurance policies should subject their policies to Performance Review-right now before it s too late. Your life insurance policies may he at risk. The past few years have seen the most significant decline in interest rates in history with current rates hovering at historic lows. Credited interest rates and dividend scales for life insurance policies issued more than just a few years ago are experiencing a downturn. These conditions have seriously affected cash values, policy dividends and the adequacy of scheduled premiums. The result is widespread policy underperformance. Under performing policies may not meet your planning objectives and, worst case, your policies could lapse.
Performance Review is a free check up on your
existing polices to measure their actual performance against the projections illustrated for you when you bought the policy. Its an important, valuable service, and very timely after the turbulent conditions of the past few years. Just as you might refinance your mortgage in changing economic conditions, so too might you consider “refinancing” your life insurance.
In business and personal planning, actual versus expected results are compared often. Changing economic conditions may seriously impact projections–both positivelv and negatively. The same is true for life insurance policies. Performance Review is a free check on your policies to compare actual performance to the projections made when you bought your policies.
Why the urgency? The past few years have been very challenging for all financial products, including life insurance. The impact for life insurance owners has been felt in changes to projected premiums, lower cash values and changes in policy dividend scales. Policy owners who do not do a Performance Review may be in for a shock-or worse, a lapsed policy.
An especially timely reason: These past few years have also seen a very positive development in life insurance-cheaper premiums and stronger guarantees. No Lapse Guarantee (NLG) policies have been designed to eliminate the downsides described above and prevent lapse, and they may be available at much less cost than previous plans. NLG policies are modern, efficient forms of permanent life insurance and policies.
Performance Review may identify a problem or a shortfall with your existing coverage, or it may validate your purchase decision and suggest leaving well enough alone. Either way, comparing actual versus expected results for your life insurance policies is a good idea.
